Glenville, WV – Glenville State College President Peter Barr and Athletic Director Janet Bailey have announced the hiring of Mandy Sansbury as the new Lady Pioneers Head Softball Coach.
“We are pleased to have Mandy as our new softball coach and can’t wait for her to get in here and to get started with the girls,” said Bailey.
Sansbury, a native of Ripley, West Virginia, comes to GSC after spending the last six years as an assistant softball coach at the University of West Georgia. During her time with the West Georgia Wolves she helped with planning practices, recruiting, travel preparation, and monitoring of student academic performance. She also worked closely with pitchers, catchers, and the outfielders.
She attended Ashland University for three years where she played on the varsity softball team. Sansbury transferred to West Virginia Wesleyan College where she played her senior year. She was honored with several awards during her playing career including: the 2003 GLIAC Player of the Week, 2003 All-GLIAC Catcher, 2003 1st Team All-Great Lakes Region-Catcher, 2004 GLIAC Scholar Athlete, 2004 NFCA Scholar Athlete, 2005 WVIAC Scholar Athlete, and 2005 WVIAC All-Conference All-Tournament Team.
“I am very excited to get the opportunity to become the Head Softball Coach here at Glenville State College, and I am thrilled to be back in West Virginia,” stated Sansbury.
Sansbury takes over for Tim Spencer who was the interim head coach for the 2011 season leading the Lady Pioneers to an 18-23 record and a fifth overall finish in the WVIAC.
“My time at GSC was great and I really enjoyed the last year. I wish the girls the best of luck in the 2011-12 season,” said Spencer.
