PRINCETON, W. Va. – The Concord Mountain Lions have been selected first in the 2011 women’s cross country coaches preseason poll, as announced by the league office.
Concord picked up 10 first-place votes en route to accounting for 162 total points. The Mountain Lions won the 2010 WVIAC Championship.
Wheeling Jesuit recorded two first-place nods and 154 total points. The Cardinals were chosen second in the league after tying for second at the conference championship a season ago.
Seton Hill garnered 144 points, including being on second place on three ballots. The point total allowed the Griffins to be predicted for a third-place finish. SHU tied for second at the WVIAC Championship in 2010.
The Bobcats of WV Wesleyan picked up the remaining first-place vote to come away with 135 total points in the poll. WVWC was selected fourth by the coaches after tying for fourth at the conference championship a season ago.
Alderson-Broaddus also tallied over 100 points, registering 114 for fifth. The Battlers tied for fourth at the WVIAC Championship in 2010.
Charleston was selected sixth with 98 points. The Golden Eagles were also sixth at the conference meet a year ago.
Ohio Valley and West Liberty tied for seventh with 71 points. Pitt Johnstown edged past Davis & Elkins for ninth with 66 points. The Senators totaled 63 points for 10th.
Fairmont State picked up 46 points for 11th place while Glenville State had 44 for 12th.
Bluefield State rounded out the poll with 15 points.
