Glenville, WV — A generous Braxton County native has made it possible for Braxton County residents to enroll in Glenville State College classes being held in Flatwoods. Lorena Hefner Scholarships are available to high school graduates residing in Braxton County who enroll in fall GSC classes at Braxton County High School’s Braxton Center. The scholarship money will cover the cost of tuition and fees for these off-campus courses.
“This is an exciting opportunity that has been provided to us.

We are grateful to Mrs. Hefner and hergenerosity as well as for the assistance given to those who will benefit from her scholarship fund,” said Kathy Gilbert, Glenville State College Coordinator of Off-Campus Programming.

Lorena Hefner was born on September 3, 1908 in Burnsville, West Virginia, and was one of eleven children. She graduated from Glenville State College in 1941 and began her teaching career in Braxton County at the Bragg Run School. While never forgetting her roots, she established the Lorena Hefner scholarship for students attending Glenville State College who are from Braxton County. Mrs. Hefner passed away on September 13, 1997.

GSC’s Braxton County off-campus classes will be held from October 17th through December 15th. They include Principles of Management, General Psychology, Principles of Sociology, Small Business Management, Introduction to Business, and Contemporary Computer Applications. The three-hour credit courses will be held twice weekly during the evening hours. Students can complete them in only eight weeks because of an accelerated course offering similar to summer school scheduling.

For more information on the Lorena Hefner Scholarship and to register for the classes, contact Gilbert at kathy.gilbert@glenville.edu or (304) 462-6124.
