Glenville, WV—Glenville State College will be celebrating Homecoming the week of October 17th. The GSC Student Government Association and the Homecoming Committee have planned a host of activities for student, faculty, staff, alumni, and friends during the week. The theme for the 2011 Homecoming is ‘Take Me Out to the Ballgame,’ as GSC honors former Pioneer baseball players and coaches as well as the 2012 Pioneer Baseball team which will begin NCAA Division II competition this spring. Homecoming is a time for renewing college friendships, making new acquaintances, exchanging college memories and experiences, and enjoying good ole Pioneer Camaraderie.
The Homecoming Coronation will be held on Tuesday, October 18th at 5:00 p.m. in the GSC Amphitheatre. In case of rain, the ceremony will be moved to the Presidents Auditorium in the Heflin Administration Building.
Also on Tuesday, the 10th Annual Fall Bluegrass Concert will be held at 7:00 p.m. in the GSC Fine Arts Auditorium. Tickets are $5 each or $8 per couple. GSC students and children under five are admitted free.
Mollohan’s Restaurant will be serving a special Oktoberfest Premium Night on Thursday, October 20th from 4:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
The Student Government Association’s Homecoming Dance will take place Thursday evening at 8:00 p.m. in the Mollohan Campus Community Center Ballroom.
The spirit competition and pep rally will be on Friday at 11:00 a.m. in the Luanna Smith Amphitheater. Those events will be kicked off by a ceremonial ringing of the campus bell.
On Friday, October 22nd, GSC’s 5th Annual Golf Tribute Tournament will be held at the Glenville Golf Club. The format will be a four-person scramble with a 10:00 a.m. shotgun start. Anyone interested in participating should contact GSC Men’s Golf Coach Greg Smith or Mindy Greathouse at (304) 462-5634 for more information or to register.
An Appreciation Dinner for past and present baseball players will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Friday in the Mollohan Campus Community Building Ballroom. RSVP is required. Contact Debbie Nagy at (304) 462-4122 for more information.
On Saturday, October 22nd, the Homecoming Parade on Main Street in Glenville begins at 10:00 a.m. Dr. Gayle Burkowski, GSC Professor Emerita will serve as homecoming parade marshal. Glenville State College President Peter Barr and his wife Betsy will host a Tailgate Picnic from 11:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. in the parking lot at Morris Stadium. The Homecoming football game will feature the GSC Pioneers and the West Virginia Wesleyan College Bobcats in a battle between the top two teams in the WVIAC at 1:30 p.m. at Morris Stadium. The 2011 GSC Homecoming Court will be presented during pre-game festivities. The 2011 Clarissa Williams and Frank Montrose Award winners will also be honored at this time. Former GSC Pioneer Baseball players and coaches along with current players and coaches will be honored at halftime.
