Glenville, WV – The Glenville State football team fell in their final home game of the 2011 season by a score of 20-37 at the hands of Shepherd.
The Pioneers had beaten Shepherd the last five seasons previously, but fell to the Rams today.
The Rams found the end-zone first as Larry Lowe returned an interception 45 yards to give Shepherd a 7-0 lead early in the first quarter. The Pioneers got on the score board when Colston Bayless hit a 36 yard field goal making it 7-3.
The Rams stormed right back as Bobby Copper scored on a three yard run putting up them up 14-3. Shepherd continued their strong play and scored again on a 30 yard interception return by Dom Dixon as the Rams went up 21-3.
The Pioneers though, came right back as quarterback Darold Hughes scored on a 34 yard run on a third down making the score 21-10at end the first quarter.
In the early minutes of the second quarter the Pioneers held the Rams offense to field goal, and Shepherd took 24-10 lead. The Pioneers offense found the end-zone for the second time as Hughes hit Jordan Griffin on a four yard touchdown pass for GSC making the score 17-24.
The Rams then drove right down the field scoring on back to back possessions as Eric Dobratz hit a 24 and a 31 yard field goal. Shepherd took a dominating lead of 30-17 heading into the fourth quarter.
The Pioneers scored again on a 35 yard Bayless field goal making it 20-30, but the Rams put a late touchdown on the board as Kenny Williams scored on a three yard run, and the Rams held on to a 37-20 victory.
The Pioneers were led by Joe Mesadieu as he rushed for 74 yards on 18 carries.
Darold Hughes led the passing attack as he threw for 66 yards going 13 for 27 with a touchdown and an interception. Steffen Colon went 7 for 11 with 46 yards and an interception.
Jordan Griffin caught seven passes for 40 yards and a touchdown, while Antwan Stewart caught six balls for 39 yards.
Terry Reese led the Pioneers defense with eight in a half tackles while Matt Parker recorded seven tackles.
The Rams were led by Tommy Addison and Kenny Williams on the ground. Addison rushed for 90 yards on 16 carries while Williams rushed for 85 yards on 20 carries and a touchdown.
Bobby Copper leading the passing attack as he went 17 for 20 for 185 yards.
Nik Norrell caught nine balls for 90 yards while John Frick hauled in two passes for 42 yards.
Dominic Tolson led the defense with seven tackles while Leons Kabongo and Mike Franklin both recorded six tackles for the day.
The Pioneers return to action next Saturday, November 11th when they travel to Greenburg, PA to battle Seton Hill at 3:00PM for the final game of the 2011 season.
