Glenville, WV – The Glenville State Pioneers played a great game against the Shepherd University Rams but fell 75-73 in a heartbreaking loss.
The Rams Malik Dauda was fouled, on a questionable call, with one tick remaining and calmly sank two free throws to break the 73-73 tie.
The Pioneers took a five point led into the half 40-35. GSC came out in the second half and jumped out to a quick eight point led but could not hold it as the Rams fought back and jumped out to nine point led with only 3:37 left to play.
The Pioneers then went on a 15 to 6 run as they tied it at 73 apiece on a Kevin Gray three pointer. But Shepherd hit two free throws as they walked away with a 75-73 win.
GSC was led by Jamel Morris as he dropped in 20 points for the Pioneers while Kevin Gray added 17. Andy Dollman contributed 10 points for GSC. The Pioneers netted 26-of-52 shots from the floor while sinking 13 three-point attempts, five of which came from Gray.
Shepherd was led by Brantley Osborne hit for a game-high 24 points. Marcus Pilgrim netted 16 for the Rams while Chad Moore had 15 points and 10 rebounds. Sidney McCray also accounted for 10 points in the win. SU sank 51.9 percent of its attempts in the game.
The Pioneers return to action Saturday, January 7th when West Liberty travels to Jesse R. Lilly Gym. Game time is set for 4:00PM.
