Bluefield, WV – The GSC Lady Pioneers basketball team traveled to Bluefield State on Thursday evening as they picked up a big win 111-90 over the Lady Blues as they get back on track with a win.
The Lady Pioneers got out to a quick five point lead 7-2 at the 18:31 mark in the first half after Ginny Petties sank a three pointer but the Lady Blues came right back and tied it at seven all in their next two possessions.
Bluefield State would take their first lead at the 13:20 mark of the first half 13-12 but it wouldn’t last for long as GSC reclaimed the lead their next possession 14-13.
But the Lady Blues would not give up that easy as they came right back a claimed a 23-20 lead at the 9:52 mark of the first half on a Dragana Tomic layup.
After that the Lady Pioneers would bounce right back and end up building a big 11 point lead as GSC took a 62-51 halftime lead.
In the second half it was all GSC, the Lady Blues could not recover from the first half run as the Lady Pioneers would claim a 21 point victory, 111-90.
The Lady Pioneers defense would cause 26 turnovers as they converted them into 29 points. GSC also won the battle on the boards as they out rebounded the Lady Blues 57 to 48 in the game.
GSC would have six players score in double figures with Tenisha Wilson leading the way with 20 points, Danielle Woodmore scored 13 points and dished out a game high of nine assists, while Mishae Miles recorded another double double as she scored 12 points and grabbed 13 rebounds.
Beth Deren scored 19 points for the Lady Pioneers as she shot six of nine from the floor, Ginny Petties scored 15 points, and Jelena Elez scored 14 points.
The Lady Blues were led by Dragana Tomic as she scored 18 points, Charlene Diggs scored 17 points and dished out seven assists, while Tiffany Moorer scored 16 points and grabbed eight rebounds.
The Lady Pioneers return to action Saturday when they travel to Fairmont State their conference rival. Tip-off is set for 2:00PM.
