Fairmont, WV – The Glenville State Lady Pioneers picked up a huge win on the road Saturday over the Fairmont State Fighting Falcons 88-80.
GSC jumped out to a nine point lead 20-11 at the 10:48 mark in the first half when Ginny Petties hit a three pointer, they continued to build that lead to a 14 point lead with only 6:05 to play in the first half.
Fairmont State made a late first half run as they chipped the Lady Pioneers lead to single digits as GSC took a 43-34 lead into halftime.
In the second half the Lady Pioneers jumped out to a quick 15 point lead at the 19:04 mark but the Fighting Falcons would not give up that easily.
Fairmont State finally cut the Lady Pioneers lead to two points 68-66 at the 5:17 mark but Beth Deren stepped up huge as she drilled two deep three pointers as GSC picked up a 88-80 victory.
The Lady Pioneers won the battle on the boards as they out rebounded the Fighting Falcon 44 to 40. Both teams committed a lot of turnovers, as GSC turned it over 24 times, while Fairmont State turned it over 28 times.
The Fighting Falcons shot an incredible 50 percent from the floor while the Lady Pioneers only shot 38 percent.
GSC had five players score in double figures with Beth Deren leading the way with 18 points as she went 6 for 13 from the floor. Tenisha Wilson scored 16 points and grabbed seven rebounds. Mishae Miles scored 13 points and also pulled down seven rebounds.
Kenyell Goodson scored 12 points while Ginny Petties just missed a double double as she chipped in with 10 points and grabbed a game high nine rebounds.
Fairmont State was led by Hailey Garrett as she scored 21 points and grabbed seven rebounds. Briana Welch scored 13 points while Kaitlin Snyder 12 points and dished out seven assists.
The Lady Pioneers improve to 10-4 on the year and 8-2 in conference play, they return to action on Tuesday when Alderson-Broaddus travels to Jesse R. Lilly Gymnasium. Tip-off is set for 5:30PM.
