Glenville, WV – The Glenville State men’s basketball team won their third straight game as Jamel Morris hit a deep three with four seconds remaining as they defeated the Davis & Elkins Senators 77-74.
The Pioneers started the game out sluggish as they found themselves down at halftime by 11 points 38-27.
In the second half GSC started to dig its way back into the game. The Pioneers cut the led to three at the 11:11 mark as Chris Abney hit a layup but then saw Davis & Elkins jump back out to an eight point lead.
The Pioneers hadn’t led since the 16:25 mark in the first half 6 to 3, but finally regaining the lead at the 7:14 mark late in the second when Chris Abney drilled a free throw making it 60 to 59 Pioneers.
The teams would then trade baskets back and fourth until it was tied 74 all with 18 second left on the clock. The Pioneers would take a timeout with 11 seconds left as they would set up for one last shot.
The Pioneers would hold Davis & Elkins to only 36 second half points while GSC scored 50.
Freshman Jamel Morris would then get the call as he took a deep three and drilled it as the Pioneers would go on to win 77-74.
GSC was led by Jamel Morris as he scored 19 points, grabbed five rebounds, and dished out three assists. Kevin Gray scored 18 for the Pioneers while Chris Abney also scored 18 points.
Nate Cash grabbed eight rebounds for GSC.
The Senators were led by Malik Tinsley as he scored a game high 24 points and seven rebounds. Andy Morris scored 15 points and Ian Pinckney chipped in with 10 points.
The Pioneers return to action Saturday, February 4th when they travel to Seton Hill as they take on the Griffins. Tip-off is set for 2:00PM.
