Glenville, WV – After a brilliant first half performance from the Pioneers men’s basketball team they came up short in the second half as the University of Charleston Golden Eagles defeated GSC 88-68.
In the first half it was back and fourth between the Pioneers and Golden Eagles. GSC got out to a 10 point lead at the 5:56 mark in the first when Jamel Morris drained two free throws, but GSC saw that lead fade away as Charleston made a run as they tied it at 35 apiece heading into halftime.
In the second half it was all Charleston as the jumped out to an early 10 point lead 45-35. The Pioneers would cut it to seven but could not get over the hump as they fell at home to the Golden Eagles 68-88.
Jamel Morris paced the Pioneers with 17 points and six rebounds while Kevin Gray scored 15 points and handed out five assists. Nate Cash, Andy Dollman, and Mark Walker all chipped in with nine points each.
The Golden Eagles were led by PJ Reyes with 31 points and eight rebounds. Eladio Espinosa scored 21 points and grabbed nine rebounds. Marcus Knott dished out six assists of Charleston.
The Pioneers return to action Monday, February 13th when they travel to take on Concord University and former assist coach Kent McBride. Tip-off is set for 7:30 PM.
