Athens, WV – The Glenville State Lady Pioneers basketball team lost a hard fought game Monday night on the road to the Concord University Mountain Lions 66-79.
Both teams battled back and fourth in the early minutes of the first half but the Mountain Lions would eventually build a six point lead 12-18 at the 9:29 mark. GSC would battle back and tie the game at 25 a piece at the 4:16 mark in the first half.
The Lady Pioneers would take the lead 27-25 at 3:07 mark in the first half but would later loss the lead as Concord took a three point lead into halftime 31-34.
In the second half Concord would continue to build on their lead, but GSC would cut the Mountain Lions lead to three 47-50 at the 12:37 mark in the game. The Lady Pioneers would then go on a drought as Concord extended their lead to nine 49-58 at the 8:36 mark.
The Lady Pioneers would pull within three points at the 3:57 mark 62-65 but that’s as close as GSC would get as Concord would hold on and go on to win by 13 points 66-79.
The Lady Pioneers would shoot 39 percent from the floor and 29 percent from the three point line while Concord shot 42 percent from the floor and 33 percent from behind the three point line. The Mountain Lions also had a huge advantage at the free throw line as they went 17 for 22 for 77 percent while GSC went six for 13 for 46 percent.
Tenisha Wilson paced GSC with 21 points and six rebounds. Danielle Woodmore was the only other Lady Pioneer to score in double figures as she scored 12 points and handed out five assists. Mishae Miles grabbed 13 rebounds for GSC.
Jolysa Brown scored 24 points to lead Concord, Brown also grabbed 14 rebounds. Andrea Bertrand scored 18 points, while Camisha Alexander and Amanda Smith both chipped in with 11 points.
The Lady Pioneers return to action Thursday when Bluefield State travels to Jesse R. Lilly Gym. Tip-off is set for 5:30 PM.
