Glenville, WV – After a shaky first half of basketball from the Lady Pioneers they used a huge second half as they ran away with a 32 point victory 106-74 over Bluefield State on Thursday night.
At the 14:34 mark in the first GSC jumped out to a quick five point lead 10-5 but quickly saw that disappear as the Lady Blues went on a 9-0 run to take the lead 14-10.
Both teams continued to trade baskets back and fourth, but the Lady Pioneers managed to go into the half with a six point lead 54-46.
In the second half it was all GSC as they outscored Bluefield State 52 to 26 and go on to a 106-74 route of Bluefield State as the Lady Pioneers get back on their winning ways.
The Lady Pioneers defense forced 31 turnovers while GSC committed 22 of there own. GSC converted those turnovers into 39 points on the night.
The Lady Pioneers also managed to out rebound the Lady Blues 65 to 39.
GSC out shot Bluefield State as the Lady Pioneers shot 42 percent while the Lady Blues shot 37 percent.
GSC had six players scored in double figures with Jelena Elez leading the Lady Pioneers attack with 22 points and three assists. Ginny Petties had a great game off the bench as she scored 21 points and grabbed 13 rebounds for a double double.
Mishae Miles also grabbed her 16th double double of the year as she scored 13 points and pulled down 13 rebounds. Kenyell Goodson scored 13 points while Tenisha Wilson scored 11 points and Danielle Woodmore chipped in with 10 points.
Bluefield State was led by Charlene Diggs with 24 points. Shae Mebane scored 15 points and grabbed nine rebounds while Dragana Tomic scored 11 points.
The Lady Pioneers return to action this Saturday when they travel to West Liberty. Tip-off is set for 2:00 PM.
