West Liberty, WV – The Glenville State Lady Pioneers basketball team traveled to West Liberty University and picked up a huge road victory over the Hilltoppers Saturday afternoon, 75-66.
GSC jumped out to a six point lead at 7-1 at the 15:22 mark after Elez Jelena hit two free throws, however West Liberty went on a run and pulled within one point 9-8.
The Hilltoppers then tied the game at 11 a piece at the 12:38 mark. The Lady Pioneers responded and rattled off an 11 point run as they retook the lead at 22-11. GSC would take a 35-22 lead into halftime.
In the second it was all about the Lady Pioneers, West Liberty pulled within one point at the final 2:57 mark nevertheless the Lady Pioneers held on to their lead and prevailed as they took the win, 75-66.
The Hilltoppers held a big advantage on the boards as they out rebounded the Lady Pioneers 58 to 37, but the Lady Pioneers defense caused 31 turnovers and converted them into a whopping 32 points.
The Lady Pioneers had three players score in double figures. Jelena Elez turned in a solid performance as she led the way with 20 points and three assists. Kenyell Goodson contributed 14 points as she went 3 for 6 from behind the arc.
Tenisha Wilson also added 12 points while Mishae Miles grabbed a team high 10 rebounds.
West Liberty was led by Shanae Ash as she scored 18 points while Kayla Ayers scored 12 points and grabbed 18 rebounds. Jenn Cessna, Emily Blevins, and Hillary Southworth all chipped in with 10 points each.
The Lady Pioneers return to the court on Wednesday, February 22nd when West Virginia State comes calling. Game time is set for 5:30 PM.
