Glenville, WV – The Glenville State Lady Pioneers basketball team picked up a nice 41 point home win over WVIAC opponent West Virginia State Wednesday night 106-65.
The Lady Pioneers got down early by three points when West Virginia State’s Janelle Williams made a layup and put the Yellow Jackets up 12-9.
GSC would quickly retaliate as they took the lead 30 seconds later when Tenisha Wilson hit a layup, putting the Lady Pioneers up 16-12. From there on out the Lady Pioneers never trailed in the game.
GSC went on a 10 point run as they pulled away toward the end of the first half taking a 54-31 lead into halftime.
In the second half, the Lady Pioneers continued to roll. West Virginia State could only get as close as 20 points as GSC cruised to a 41 point victory, 106-65.
The Lady Pioneers defense caused 33 Yellow Jacket turnovers and converted them into 41 points while GSC only turned it over 13 times on the night.
GSC ruled the paint as they out scored West Virginia State 52 to 36.
The Lady Pioneers had six players score in double figures with Ginny Petties leading the way with 21 points as she connected on four of seven from behind the three point line. Danielle Woodmore scored 15 points, dished out five assists, and had eight steals in the game.
Jelena Elez scored 14 points and also handed out five assists. Mishae Miles grabbed her 26th career double double as she scored 13 points and grabbed 17 rebounds. Beth Deren scored 12 points for GSC while Kenyell Goodson chipped in with 10 points. Aesha Peters also grabbed 12 rebounds on the night.
West Virginia State was led by Jasmine Blanton with 12 points, three assists, and six rebounds. Sissy Wagner was the only other Yellow Jacket to score in double figures with 11 points and 11 rebounds. Kashauna Cook grabbed 10 rebounds for West Virginia State.
The Lady Pioneers return to action on Saturday, February 25th when Ohio Valley travels to Jesse R. Lilly Gym for Senior Day. Tip-off is set for 2:00 pm.
