Glenville, WV – The Glenville State Lady Pioneers claimed a 113-89 victory over the Ohio Valley Fighting Scouts on Senior Day.
A crowd of about 300 came out to show their support to the Lady Pioneers seniors; Danielle Woodmore, Tenisha Wilson, Beth Deren, and Mishae Miles. The ladies gave the crowd a great show.
GSC took a quick five point lead 11-6 after Kenyell Goodson drilled one of her four three pointers. The Fighting Scouts would then come back and tie the game at 13 apiece at the 16:07 mark in the first half.
At the 14:04 mark Ohio Valley took the lead when Amber Avery drilled two free throws making it 18-19. However the Lady Pioneer made a later run in the first half making it a 16 point lead into halftime 65-49.
During the second half, the Lady Pioneers continued their dominate play as they built a 38 point lead. Ohio Valley only got as close as 17 points as the Lady Pioneers walked away with a 24 point victory, 113-89.
Both teams shot the ball well with the Lady Pioneers shooting 44 percent from the floor and 33 percent from behind the three point line. Ohio Valley shot 44 percent from the floor and 52 percent from behind the three point line.
GSC’s defense would cause 28 turnovers and convert them into 38 points.
Six Lady Pioneer’s players scored in double figures with Danielle Woodmore leading the way with 20 points and five assists. Tenisha Wilson scored 19 points for GSC, while she grabbed nine rebounds, and handed out four assists.
Kenyell Goodson and Ginny Petties both scored 14 points in the game, while Beth Deren and Jelena Elez both scored 13 points. Mishae Miles just missed a double double as she scored nine points and had nine rebounds.
Tenisha Wilson and Beth Deren both scored their 1,000th point as a Lady Pioneer.
Dakeisha Mann scored 21 points for Ohio Valley; she also had eight rebounds in the game. Danielle Sams also scored 21 points as she hit seven three’s in the game. Amber Avery scored 16 points and Shelby Way chipped in with 11 points.
The Lady Pioneers will return to action on Monday,February 27th when Alderson-Broaddus travels to Glenville for the first round of the WVIAC Tournament. Tip-off is set for 7:00PM.
