The Science Fiction and Fantasy Guild at Glenville State College is hosting Historical Paranormal Tours. Samantha Wolford coordinated it and Patrick Montgomery is running the tour.  It will take place Friday, November 1 from 7p.m. to 8p.m. The guides, Patrick Montgomery and Whitney Stalnaker, will meet you in the Dora Heflin Garden in front of Clark Hall.  Each tour group is split into a maximum of 15 people. With spring semester just around the corner, students take different routes on planning for it. Some students keep their concentration on the classes they have now, while others start planning what they want to take for next semester. Breast Cancer Luncheon

Breast Cancer Luncheon

October is breast cancer awareness month, and Glenville State College is hosting a breast cancer awareness luncheon in honor of it. The luncheon takes place Tuesday October 15, from 12-1:30p.m. in the MCCC Ballroom. It is free to the public, but you must RSVP to Ronda Williams at (304) 462-6430 by October 11. Freddie Simpson Memorial

In the fall of 2011, Glenville State College suffered the loss of a new but well loved student. Frederick “Freddie” Simpson was an avid Boy Scout and became involved with the Science Fiction and Fantasy Guild. Early in his first semester he had a panic attack and had to be taken to the hospital by ambulance. Sadly, he died on the way. Meet the Fitness Instructors

Meet the Fitness Instructors

The fitness center is home to much more than exercise equipment. It is also home to fitness classes taught by Carly Caldon and Sallie Anglin. Carly Caldon is a Glenville State College student who teaches yoga every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, and Pilates every Tuesday and Thursday from 12:15-12:45. Yoga is a series of exercises to help attain physical and mental control. Pilates is a series of exercises to help with flexibility, balance, and strength. Correction: The Glenville State College Science Fiction and Fantasy Guild did not create Humans vs. Zombies, they are just the ones hosting it on campus.  It was first created at Goucher College in 2005. And Eric W. Jones is not president of the guild; he is in charge of this game of HvZ. Robert Hensley is the club’s president. Jace Sherman, of the Science Fiction and Fantasy Guild, has been a fan of is Japanese Chambara, a genre of Samurai films, for several years, and has been collecting the films for a year now. An interesting fact about these films is that they have influenced Western cinema, such as the original Star Wars trilogy was influenced by Akira Kurosawa, and the late 60’s Western films were revolutionized by these movies. Director David Bernier was born on November 1, 1974 in southern New Hampshire. He went to Plymouth State College in the White Mountains. Bernier moved to West Virginia in 2001 to work in the New River Gorge. He taught rock climbing and kayaking, and was a white water rafter. During his time at the New River Gorge he met the previous Glenville State College High Adventure instructor.
