The Pioneers defeated WVIAC opponent University of Charleston at the 2012 homecoming game 14-10. They now have a record of 5-1 in the conference and 5-4 overall.
Glenville State and University of Charleston were both unable to score in the first quarter, but Justin Feagin ran the ball seven yards in the second quarter to put the Pioneers on the scoreboard first at 7-0. At the 5:01 mark in the second quarter, the Golden Eagles ran the ball from nineteen yards out to tie the score at 7-7.
The Pioneers were sure to score on their next possession, as Feagin locked down tight end Jake Harper from six yards out putting the Pioneers up 14-7 with only 44 seconds left to play in the first half.
Once again, both the Pioneers and the Eagles were scoreless to open up the second half. The Pioneers defense gave up a 29 yard field goal, as the Eagles came just a little closer making the score 14-10. Glenville State’s Demetrius “DQ” Quarles caught his third interception of the day on the Golden Eagles’ last drive of the game, taking the win for the Pioneers 14-10.
Rahmann Lee saw himself at the top of the stat book as he led the Pioneers once again in rushing with 128 yards on 22 carries. Justin Feagin completed 7 of 11 passes for 66 yards, one interception and a touchdown; he also rushed for 84 yards on 19 carries and a rushing touchdown. Orlandus Harris grasped three passes for 25 yards, followed closely by Jake Harper who caught two passes for 23 yards and a touchdown.
Darren Elliott led the Glenville State defense with 9.5 tackles while Nate Ingersoll came right behind with nine tackles. Demetrius Quarles had six tackles and three interceptions.
After defeating the University of Charleston, the Pioneers now sit in a tie for first place in the WVIAC with the Shepherd University Rams, who they will see on the field at Shepherd on Saturday, October 3. Kickoff is set for 12 p.m.
