Glenville State Football Schedule Announced

The Mountain East Conference has had a lot of hype but none more than the release of its inaugural football season. Glenville’s slate will include many old foes and rivals from the old West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference but will also include some new opponents.
The Pioneers kick off their conference schedule at West Liberty on September 14. Conference home action will take place the following Thursday against the Falcons of Fairmont State in the Battle for the Bit. The third week of the season the Pioneers will face-off with their first unfamiliar foe, Urbana.

After that, the Pioneers host West Virginia Wesleyan and travel to take on the University of Charleston in what should be another pivotal match-up to determine who wins the conference. The coaching staff will have their work cut out for them the following two weeks as they face two non-WVIAC schools in University of Virginia at Wise and travel to Notre Dame College (Ohio). The UVA-Wise Cavaliers are in their final season as a member of the NAIA and Mid-South Conference. Meanwhile the Falcons of Notre Dame are currently a member of the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.

The Pioneers have their most anticipated match-up of the season on November 2 against reigning WVIAC champion, Shepherd. The Pioneers will host the Rams in a game that very much could determine who wins the conference. The season ends with a conference match-up at West Virginia State.

“One thing that really stands out about our schedule is the amount of new coaching staffs. Eight out of 11 of our opponents are unknowns and that certainly adds a challenge for us,” says Head Coach David Hutchinson. The Pioneers only have two nonconference foes on schedule this year. One is Division 1-AA Virginina Miltitary Institute. The atmosphere is sure to be electric when the Pioneers face them on September 7th on their home field. November 9th the Pioneers host Division 2 and Great Lakes Intercollegiate Member in Walsh.

Although over half a year away, Football season will be here before you know it.
