The University of Charleston Golden Eagles came out on top in a two point victory against the Glenville State College Men’s Basketball Team.
It was a bucket to bucket affair in the early minutes of the first half, but with 11:00 minutes to play before halftime, the Golden Eagles went on a very strong run to pull their lead ahead by 19, 33-14.
With about 6:00 minutes left in the first half, the Pioneers took charge and went on a run themselves that cut the Eagles’ lead to 7, as they went into halftime with a score 37-30.
The University of Charleston opened up the second half with another run that put them ahead a solid 13 points, 56-43. After the Pioneers were able to execute their offense, they cut the lead to one point, 70-69 with only nine seconds left in the game.
After fouling the University of Charleston to get the ball back, the Eagles went to the line and made one free throw. The Pioneers had one last opportunity to walk away victorious, but Kevin Gray’s three point attempt would fall short, and the University of Charleston would mark down the win, 71-69.
Lamont Cole led Glenville State in scoring with 20 points and six rebounds. Jamel Morris trailed Cole with 19 points and six rebounds. DJ Blanks was the last of the Pioneers to score in double figures with 13 points and dishing out three assists. Lamar Mallory led the Pioneers in rebounding with nine boards.
The Men’s Basketball Team will come back to their home court today where they will take on Concord University at 7:30 P.M.
