Business Communication

banner-logoBusiness Communication (BUSN 193) would present several student centered presentations over the next month. These presentations focus on preparing our graduating seniors on finding that perfect job. It is a series of presentations taking the student through where to find jobs openings, how to prepare for the interview, interviewing skills and common types of interviews, developing a strong resume and cover letter and fashions that reflect the right image.

Job Openings

In this presentation, the students focus on where to find job openings. The discuss centers around common websites, the use of contacts, the use of career specific organizations and the etiquette needed for interviewing, dealing with small talk, and formal dinner meetings.

Preparing for the Interview

This presentation will focus on the research a candidate would go through in order to be ready for an interview, understanding the types of interviews that a candidate might encounter, commonly used questions in an interview, and an exploration of illegal questions that may be asked during an interview. The discussion will also discuss the impact of social media on the hiring process.

Developing a Strong Resume and Cover letter

The most important document a new graduate needs, beyond their degree, is a quality resume. The students will discuss the types of resumes, the use of cover letters, and the use of follow-up materials. The presentation will discuss the design, the commonly used phrasing found in a quality resume, and the importance of making a good impression before, during and after an interview.

Fashion for the Interview

If you feel students are struggling with finding the right style of clothing for the job, this presentation will show you the good, the bad, and the perfect for differing styles of jobs. It will consist of both a discussion and a fashion show.

We have been preparing our students for their careers. We have given them knowledge. We have shown them the importance of preparation, perseverance, community, and career; now Business Communication (BUSN 193) wants to help by giving them those all important skills for their job interview.
