GSC Acquires A New Face Around CampusBy Megan Prater | December 5th, 2011 | Category: News | No Comments »
Although the new semester is almost halfway over, there are still many new and exciting things that are going on around the GSC campus. One such thing would be the introduction of the newly hired Director of the Academic Support Center, Matthew Groner. Groner is only one out of the many new hires that were brought on this semester.
When asked why he chose GSC, Groner stated many reasons for the move from Linn State. One such reason would be that he has always wanted to live in the mountains of Southern Appalachia. When he received the job advertisement, Groner toured the college, found out he really enjoyed everything GSC had to offer and applied for the job on the spot. Groner also really enjoyed the idea of GSC having a Bluegrass Program in the Music Department.
Groner came to us here at GSC from his previous position as the Academic Resource Specialist at Linn State Technical College. Groner has his Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science and his Master’s in English, both from the University of Missouri. Groner started out in his career as a peer tutor and things just seemed to escalate as he accepted positions in many school’s academic centers. Although he is now working in the Academic Support Center, Groner originally wanted to go to law school and was on his college’s mock trial team which competed at many prestigious colleges such as Yale and Baylor.
Needless to say, Groner is really excited about working with all of the students. “I really enjoy all of the different aspects of working with college students, and that’s why I chose this career,” said Groner.
