This past Thursday night, Glenville State College unveiled a series of exciting new features for the football season. The Pioneers showcased their new uniforms while playing on the field’s new playing surface. Thursday night also marked the debut of the newly renovated home stands, the Jumbotron, and sky box seats. All of this excitement did not leave the fans of Glenville State College disappointed, as the Pioneers were able to defeat bitter rival Fairmont State University by a final score of 31-14.
The game got off to a quick start for the Pioneers as they marched the field for a touchdown on their opening possession of the game. A long reception by Rahman Lee set up a running touchdown for fellow running back DeShaun Sands. However, after a mixed extra point by the Pioneers, Fairmont State University was able to put up a quick score and take the 7-6 lead. This back and forth nature took place the entire first half as the Pioneers found themselves trailing at the half by a score of 14-13.
The second half was a completely different story for the Pioneers. They came out of the locker room with a new outlook and blanked the Falcons in the second half. In addition the team’s stellar defensive performance in the second half, the offense was also able to put up seventeen points on the board.
This offensive charge was led by running back Rahman Lee. Lee provided the Pioneers with two touchdowns in the second half. On the day, Lee was able to produce over two hundred yards of total offense. This performance earned Lee the title of the Mountain East Conference offensive player of the week.
The Pioneers will look to build upon their victory as they prepare to travel to Urbana, Ohio this weekend to take on the Blue Knights of Urbana University. The Pioneers will return home October 5 to take on West Virginia Wesleyan.
