Glenville State College named Katie Avery as the new volleyball head coach, replacing Camai Roberson.
Avery is from Teays Valley, West Virginia and is looking forward to the upcoming season. Avery attended rivaling college West Virginia State University and graduated in 2013 with a degree in Sport Studies. Avery has always wanted to reach the college coaching level and was “ecstatic to coach” when she found out that she got the position.Avery has already finished her first few weeks of training and practices. She says that she has seen “an overall improvement from last year.” She also “expects the team will work hard and play at their full potential” during their first game on September 5.Even though the season just started, Avery has already begun trying to expand the volleyball program by searching for recruits out of state. As the season takes flight Avery hopes that many of the students and faculty will help cheer on the new team as they play the first official game on September 11 at the Waco Center.
