1st Annual Pioneer Canoe ChallengeBy Chris Hunter | September 20th, 2012 | Category: Lead Story, News | No Comments »
A new and exciting event is available for Glenville State students to participate in. For the first year ever there will be a canoe challenge for all Pioneers and anyone else who wishes to participate in it. “It’ll be a really good time,” said one of the race’s creators, David Bernier.
The starting line is still to be determined for the race but the finish line will be at the Pioneer Grill, owned by the race’s other creator, Brian Kennedy. Even though the starting line is unknown the race’s distance should only be a couple miles. Each team will have two participants on it and if you have a female participant on your team it is a fifteen second handicap. If both of your team’s participants are female then a thirty second handicap will be given to your team. Even if the challenge isn’t the easiest thing you have ever done, the rules are simple and easy to understand.
After the race there will be an awards ceremony that will have music. The awards are significantly more substantial than just bragging rights and especially impressive when one
considers that this is just the first year for the event. The first place team will get 200 dollars. Second place will get 125 dollars while the third place team will earn 75 dollars.
The race starts at 5 p.m. this Friday and all participants should be there by 4:30 p.m. at the very latest. Spectators can watch the race behind the Pioneer Grill.
