Pioneers Walk Away with Another Loss


Sophomore James Johnson led the Pioneers defense with seven tackles at Lindenwood University.

The Glenville State College Pioneers fell to 1-3 for the season after another tough
loss at Lindenwood University this past Friday.

Colston Bayless gave the Pioneers a very early lead with a 22 yard field goal after
Glenville drove the ball 70 yards on their first possession. Following Bayless’
field goal came Derek McRae who scored a touchdown from one yard out making the
score 10-0 in the first. During the second quarter, Darold Hughes hit his main
target from last game, Robert Jiles, from 36 yards away for a touchdown.


The Pioneers’ strong defense kept the Lindenwood Tigers from scoring in the first
half of the game which allowed the Pioneers to head into halftime leading
17-0. After an 18-yard run, Rahmann Lee came in contact with the end zone
putting Glenville ahead even further with a score of 24-7 to start the fourth.

The Tigers finally came out to play in the fourth quarter as they stopped the
Pioneers’ offensive drives and clawed their way back into the game scoring 21
straight points. With only 2:59 left on the clock, the Pioneers had an
incomplete pass on a third and thirteen and had one last opportunity to come
back, but unfortunately ended up throwing an interception on the fourth down.

Rahmann Lee, a freshman running back, rushed for 165 yards on 27 carries and scored one
touchdown followed by Derek McRae who ran the ball 13 times for 42 yards and a

Darold Hughes completed 22 of 34 passes for 215 yards with one touchdown and an interception.
Hughes continued to keep his eye on Robert Jiles who caught six passes for 79
yards and a touchdown, Lee brought in five passes for 41 yards, and Orlando
Harris had five receptions for 40 yards. James Johnson led
the Pioneers’ defense with seven tackles while Demetrius Quarles and Brandon
Absher each had five.

Lindenwood University walked away with a 28-24 win over the Pioneers who now sit 1-3
overall and still remain undefeated in the conference with a record of 1-0.
Glenville State College will be back on the field Saturday, September 29 when
they travel to take on West Liberty for their second conference game of the season;
kickoff will be at 1p.m.
