James R. Scott was born was born in 1927, one of twelve
children of Howard J. and Othelia Riddle Scott. Scott
attended Troy Elementary School and Troy High School.
After graduation, Scott joined the United States Air
Force and served as a communication officer from 1946-49.
After serving two years with the FBI, Scott came to
Glenville State College where he graduated in 1953 with
an A.B. degree in business education. Scott would spend
the bulk of his career as a diplomatic courier for the
U.S. Department of Foreign Service. His career took
him to Dublin, London, Geneva, Madrid, Paris, Frankfurt,
Lisbon, Rome, Vienna and Djakarta. His most dangerous
assignments took him to countries behind the Iron Curtain,
notably Russia, Poland, Romania, Czechoslovakia, Yugoslavia,
Hungary and Indonesia. After retiring from the Foreign
Service in 1975, Scott became an Associate Director
of Housekeeping at the Roanoke Memorial Hospital, Roanoke,
VA.
