Glenville, WV – The GSC Lady Pioneers softball team swept the Seton Hill Griffins on Wednesday afternoon.
In game one, the Lady Pioneers found their bats early as they took a quick 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning when Kayleigh Huck hit a RBI double as she scored Carly Caldon.
GSC would add three more runs in the bottom of the third when Lacey Metheney hit an RBI double scoring Brittany Spencer.
Later in the third Courtney Rzepka would hit a two RBI single as she scored Lacey Metheney and Meagen Lesser as the Lady Pioneers took a 4-0 lead over the Griffins.
Seton Hill would finally score in the top of the fifth when Taylor Marchozzi hit a solo homerun as the Griffins made it 4-1.
The Lady Pioneers would add another run in the bottom of sixth when Kayleigh Huck grounded out to the pitcher scoring Carlee Chatron as GSC took a 5-1 lead.
Seton Hill would add two runs in the top of the seventh but it wasn’t enough as the Lady Pioneers held on to a 5-3 victory over Seton Hill.
GSC was led by Courtney Rzepka went two for three with two RBI’s while teammate Kayleigh Huck went one for four with two RBI’s.
Lacey Metheney also played well as she went one for two with an RBI and scored a run.
Brittany May pitched all seven innings for GSC as she allowed seven hits, three runs, and struck out one batter.
Seton Hill was led by Taylor Marchozzi as she went two for three with an RBI and scored two runs.
Christine Henderson pitched six innings for the Griffins as she gave up 11 hits, five runs, and struck out two batters.
In the second game of the double header both teams struggled to find their offense.
The Griffins would score first in the top of the sixth inning when Liz Piekut hit a RBI singled as Danielle Teaster scored putting Seton Hill up 1-0.
GSC would answer back in the bottom of the seventh when Morgan Scarpellini scored to tie the game up a 1-1 with no outs. The Lady Pioneers would then win the game when Courtney Rzepka scored on a error as GSC walked away with a 2-1 win over Seton Hill.
Carlee Chatron went three for four for the Lady Pioneers while Morgan Scarpelini went one for three and scored a run.
Courtney Rzepka went one for three and scored the winning run.
Meagen Lesser pitched seven innings as she gave up five hits, one run, and struck out three batters for GSC.
Liz Piekut went two for three with one RBI for Seton Hill.
Danielle Treaster as she pitched six innings allowing six hits, two runs, and struck out three batters.
The Lady Pioneers return to action Saturday, March 31st when they travel to Davis & Elkins for a double header. Game time is set for 1:00 PM.
