Offense Prevails Over Defense in Annual Blue vs. White Game

The Pioneers offense was led by Steffen Colon as he went 11 for 19 for 79 yards and ran a touchdown

Glenville, WV – On a beautiful Thursday evening, the Glenville State Football team and Head Coach David Hutchison took the field to play in front of about 200 spectators as they watched the Annual Blue vs. White game as the spring football season came to an end.

The Pioneers offense was led by Steffen Colon as he went 11 for 19 for 79 yards and ran a touchdown; he also totted the ball four times as he gained 20 yards.

Quin Thornton was also a bright spot for the GSC offense, as he carried the ball nine times for 43 yards and had a touchdown. Derek McRae also carried the ball nine times for 33 yards.

Second string quarterback, Tony Guidugli, went four for nine through the air. Tony also rushed the ball nine times for 36 yards and had a touchdown run.

Tyler Gardiner hauled in four catches for 39 yards while Darion Cleckley caught several passes.

The Pioneers offensive line had a great game as they controlled the line of scrimmage for the most part of the game.

On the defensive side, GSC was led by John Howard as he had five tackles; several pass brake ups, and a big hit. Terry Reese racked up four tackles while James Washington had four tackles. Defensive freshman of the year last year, Hunter McWhorter, had two tackles.

Marquis Nedd had an interception in the game, while Brandon Absher had a nice play as he blocked a 47 yard field goal attempt from Eddie McKay.

The Offense went on to beat the defense by a score of 50-37. The game was free to the public however t the Pioneers was accepting any donations that would go on to benefit the Gilmer County Fire Department. At half time, Coach Hutchison presented the Fire Department with $422.88.

“Everyone played well offensively and defensively, we all came out and flew around the field,” said Steffen Colon

“We are excited for the 2012 season and can not wait till we return in the fall,” stated Colon.

The Pioneers open the 2012 season on Thursday, August 30th at 7:00 p.m. at Carson-Newman College of Tennessee (5-6).
