2012 WVIAC Multi Championship

Glenville, WV, April 21, 2012 – The WVIAC Multi Championships concluded today at Glenville State College as defending champions Cuylor Edgell and Ashli Knotts successfully defended their titles in the decathlon and heptathlon. WV Wesleyan’s Ashli Knotts ran the 800m in 2:17.37 to set an event record and overcome a 59 point deficit heading into the final event. In doing so Knotts set a new meet record for the heptathlon scoring 4400 points bettering her previous mark of 4306 points. Her score also was good enough for a NCAA Division II Provisional currently ranking her 23rd in the nation. Glenville’s Martney Jacobs was this year’s runner-up scoring 4255 points and Wheeling Jesuit Janey Hall finished in third scoring 4046 points. Rounding out the scoring for the event was three WV Wesleyan athletes: Nikki Emborski placing fourth with 4024 points, Gretchen Lantz placing fifth with 3802 points and Jenna Howell placing sixth with 3712 points.

In the decathlon WV Wesleyan’s Cuylor Edgell (JR) won his third straight championship scoring 6281 points. Wheeling Jesuit’s Craig Neiswanger was this year’s runner-up scoring 5835 points. Neiswanger lead the day with individual event wins winning the 110m hurdles in 16.11 and winning the discus throw with a toss of 35.25m (115’8”). WV Wesleyan freshman Emerson Gagnon finished in third with 5392 just 50 points ahead of fourth place finisher Zach Bangor of Wheeling Jesuit. Rounding out the scoring on the men’s side was Andrew Ferguson with 4947 point and Aaron Lantz with 4821 points, both of WV Wesleyan.

Team scores leading in to this week’s WVIAC Track and Field portion of the Championships to be held this Friday and Saturday April 27-28 at Wheeling Jesuit University are as follow:

Women: WV Wesleyan 17 pts., Glenville 8pts., and Wheeling Jesuit 6 pts.

Men: WV Wesleyan 19 pts., Wheeling Jesuit 12 pts.
