Hughes Named WVIAC Offensive Player of the Week for Second Week in a Row

Darold Hughes connected on 13-of-20 passes for 258 yards and three touchdowns for Glenville State in the win over Fairmont State last Thursday as he was named the WVIAC Conference Offensive Player of the Week for the second week in a row

Princeton, WV – Darold Hughes, Puma Nuredini, Marco Ricchetti and Matt Wilmer have been named WVIAC Football Players of the Week, as announced by the league office.

For the second consecutive week, Hughes earned WVIAC Offensive Player of the Week honors. Ricchetti picked up WVIAC Defensive Player of the Week accolades while Nuredini and Wilmer were tabbed co-WVIAC Special Teams Players of the Week.

Hughes, a 6’4” senior quarterback from Marrero, La., connected on 13-of-20 passes for 258 yards and three touchdowns for Glenville State in the win over Fairmont State last Thursday. Hughes connected on two touchdown passes in the first half and threw for the Pioneers’ only score in the second half.

Ricchetti, a 6’3” junior safety from Martins Ferry, Ohio, posted 8.5 tackles for West Liberty in the win over Virginia State. He had four tackles for loss from his position. Ricchetti also had an interception in the end-zone late in the first half to go along with a pass break-up.

Nuredini, a 5’10” junior kicker from Naples, Fla., established a school record for Charleston in the victory over St. Joseph’s. He booted a 49-yard field goal in the contest while also hitting all four extra-point attempts. Nuredini averaged 44.8 yards per punt and 62.5 yards per kick-off in the contest.

Wilmer, a 6’0” wide receiver from Keyser, W. Va., matched a school record with his 100-yard kick return for a touchdown for Fairmont State in the game against Glenville State last Thursday. The return for a score was the first kick return for a touchdown of his stellar career. In the game, Wilmer also had three punt returns for 25 yards and a kick return for 12 yards.

Other top special teams performers: Tiko Henderson (Concord), Dominic Cooper (West Liberty), Zane Zebrasky (West Virginia Wesleyan)
