Princeton, WV- Glenville State’s Ginny Mills and West Liberty’s Hillary Southworth have been named co-WVIAC Women’s Basketball Players of the Week, as announced by the league office.
Mills, a 5’7” junior guard from Steubenville, Ohio, guided the Pioneers to a 2-0 week. She averaged 23.5 points and 8.5 rebounds in victories over No. 6 Edinboro and Virginia Union. She hit 15-of-32 shots from the floor (46.9 percent) and 11-of-23 from downtown (.478). In the win over Edinboro, she poured in 24 points and grabbed 12 boards. She accounted for 23 points and five assists in the come-from-behind win over Virginia Union.
Southworth, a 5’10” junior guard from Twinsburg, Ohio, led the Hilltoppers to a 1-1 week. She averaged 28 points and six rebounds for WLU. Southworth buried 21-of-42 shots from the floor (50 percent) and sank five three-point buckets. She also dished out five assists and had a block. In the season-opening loss to Edinboro, Southworth nette 26 points, had four rebounds and two assists. Against Virginia Union, she exploded for a career-high 30 points, with 20 coming in the second half.
