Glenville, WV – The Glenville State men’s basketball team had a tremendous second half as they defeated the Urbana University Blue Knights on Tuesday night, 104-85.
The Pioneers found themselves down by seven points, 12-5 at the 14:58 minute mark of the first half, but would make a run an tie it at 16 all with 12:24 on the clock.
Both teams would battle back and fourth for the remainder of the first half until the Pioneers Lamar Mallory hit two free throws as GSC took a 42-40 lead into halftime.
In the second half it was all Pioneers from there on out, junior Lamont Cole checked into the game and gave GSC a great lift.
Lamont Cole and the Pioneers would extend their lead to 13 points at the 11:33.
The Urbana Blue Knights would try and make a run but would only get the Pioneers lead to eight as GSC cruised to a 19 point win, 104-85.
The Pioneers defense caused 17 turnovers and the offense converted them into 27 points. GSC also dominated the Blue Knights in the paint as they outscored Urbana 53 to 30.
GSC had five players score in double figures with Lamar Mallory leading the way with 24 points and 13 rebounds for a double double.
Lamont Cole provided a great lift off of the bench as he scored 16 points in only 13 minutes of play. Kevin Gray scored 14 points on the night.
JJ Vazquez and DJ Blanks both chipped in with 12 points each. Blanks also handed out a game high seven assists.
Urbana was led by Armond Battle with 27 points while Dusan Komljenovic chipped in 19 points.
The Pioneers will return to action Monday, December 31st when Salem University travels to Glenville. Tip-off is set for 2:00 pm.
