Elkins, WV – The Glenville State College men’s basketball team suffered a tough road loss at the hands of Davis & Elkins on Thursday night, 70-74.
The Davis & Elkins Senators jumped out to an early 10 point lead over GSC, 14-4 at the 15:36 left till halftime. The Pioneers would continue to battle back and tie the game at 37 all with 2:03 left till halftime.
However, the Pioneers would go to halftime down by two points, 40-42.
In the second half, the Pioneers would once again find themselves down by double digits as Davis & Elkins jumped out to a 12 point lead, 66-54 with 10:55 left in the game.
The Pioneers once again would comeback and pull within three points with 29 seconds left in the game. Afterwards, Davis & Elkins would then commit a turnover letting GSC having one more chance to tie it up at 73 all.
However on the Pioneers possession Davis & Elkins would come up with a huge steals as they would hold on to defeated the Pioneers, 70-74.
The Pioneers had a huge advantage in the paint as they outscored Davis & Elkins 42 to 26. The Pioneers bench also outscored the Senators bench 21 to 15.
The Pioneers were led by JJ Vazquez as he scored a career high 19 points. Vazquez also had five assists and five rebounds in the game. Jamel Morris scored 18 points in the contest.
Lamar Mallory chipped in with 13 points and grabbed eight rebounds while Kevin Gray scored 11 pon the night.
Davis & Elkins was led by Shane Brown as he scored a game high 23 points while D’Quan Lynch chipped in with 15 points.
The Pioneers return home on Saturday as Seton Hill travels to Jesse R. Lilly Gym. Game time is set for 4:00 pm.
