Lady Pioneers Sweep Ohio Valley

Morgan Scarpellini had a great day as she finished with 5 hits, 3 RBI's, and scored 4 runs as GSC swept Ohio Valley

Vienna, W.Va. – The Glenville State softball team swept the Ohio Valley University Fighting Scots on Saturday afternoon by a score of 5-1 in game one and a score of 4-1 in the second game of the double header.

In game one, Ohio Valley took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning.

However in the top of the second inning GSC would tie it up at 1 apiece as Morgan Scarpellini hit a solo homerun.

The Lady Pioneers would add two more runs in the top of the third inning as Kayleigh Huck hit a double to center field as Katelyn Porter and Carlee Charton both crossed the plate as GSC went up 3-1.

And in the top of the fifth inning Morgan Scarpellini would hit another homerun as Kayleigh Huck also scored as the Lady Pioneers would win game one, 5-1.

Katelyn Porter went 1 for 4 and scored a run while Kayleigh Huck went 2 for 4 with 2 RBI’s and scored 2 runs.

Morgan Scarpellini had a great game as she went 3 for 3 with 3 RBI’s and scored 2 runs.

Sam Weaver pitched the whole game as she allowed 5 hits, 1 run, and struck out 3 batters.

In the second game, GSC would get on the scoreboard first in the top of the fourth as Brittany Spencer hit a sacrifice fly to right field as Morgan Scarpellini scored as the Lady Pioneers took a 1-0 lead.

In the top of the fifth GSC would do most of the damage as they scored 3 runs and would go on to win game two by a score of 4-1.

Morgan Scarpellini went 2 for 3 and scored 2 runs. Carly Caldon, Katelyn Porter, Kayleigh Huck, Meagan Lesser, Brittany Spencer, and Carlee Charton all had hits in the game. Meagan Lesser and Brittany Spencer both finished the game with 2 RBI’s each.

Brittany May pitched the whole game as she gave up 8 hits and only allowed 1 run.

The Lady Pioneers return to action on Wednesday, April 17th when they travel to Wheeling Jesuit. The double header is set for 2:00pm.
