GLENVILLE, WV—Glenville State College Department of Language and Literature faculty and staff have recently launched a new reading series. The opening event took place on Friday, September 13th. It featured GSC Associate Professor of English Jonathan Minton and special guest reader Sandra Simonds who is a Professor of English at Thomas University in southern Georgia.
“We are hoping to build bridges with this new writing series between poets and the audience, and between visiting writers and the writers in our own community. To that end, I think this first event in the reading series went very well. I think Sandra Simonds connected with the audience through her provocative, yet humorous poems,” said Minton.
Future events will include an open mic night on Wednesday, October 16th in the GSC Rusty Musket, an appearance by West Virginia writer Scott McClanahan from Beckley (Raleigh County), West Virginia on November 7th, other guest readers including the poet Tim Earley of Glenville (Gilmer County), West Virginia, and various workshops.
“We have a lot of talented writers here in Glenville, but we also would like to invite outside talent as well to share their work,” said Minton.
These events are free and open to the public. For more information, contact Minton at Jonathan.Minton@glenville.edu or (304) 462-6322.
