Glenville, WV—On Monday, April 25 Glenville State College’s Morris Stadium hosted the 2011 Gilmer County Special Olympics. Approximately thirty athletes from eight years old to adult competed in running, jumping, throwing, and golf events as they tried to qualify for the West Virginia Special Olympics this summer.
Over twenty-four GSC student athletes representing the Pioneer football, women’s basketball, cross country, track and field, and softball teams volunteered their time to conduct the day’s activities and interact with the Special Olympic athletes.
Those athletes that qualified will now take part in the West Virginia State Special Olympics which will take place at UC Stadium (formerly Laidley Field) in Charleston, West Virginia June 3-5.
