Glenville, W.Va. – The Glenville State Pioneer football team defeated non-conference foe Walsh University 33-21 in the Pioneers last home contest of the 2013 season, it was also senior day at Morris Stadium.
Both teams would battle back and fourth early in the first quarter, however GSC would take a 26-10 lead into halftime.
The Pioneers would continue the dominate play in the second half as they would go onto win 33-21 over Walsh.
GSC rushed for 281 yards while the Pioneers defense only allowed 107. The Pioneers also won the turnover battle as the defense caused four turnovers while GSC only gave it away once.
Both teams racked up the penalties yards as GSC had 15 penalties for 215 yards, while Walsh had 10 penalties for 142 yards.
Rahmann Lee led the rushing attack for the Pioneers with 214 rushing yards, on 25 carries and a touchdown. Senior running back, Derek McRae, had 66 rushing yards and a touchdown.
Senior quarterback, Steffen Colon, threw for 166 yards and 2 touchdowns, as he went 15 for 28. Colon’s favorite target was Delvon Purvis, as he caught 5 passes for 90 yards and a pair of touchdowns. Seth Jordan also hauled in 5 passes for 56 yards.
James Johnson led the Pioneer defense with 8 tackles on the day. Darren Elliott finished with 6.5 tackles and an interception. Demetrius Quarles also had an interception during the game.
The Pioneers will finish the season on the road next week Saturday, November 16th when they travel to West Virginia State. Kick off is set for 1:00 p.m.
