Glenville, W.Va.- The Glenville State Pioneers men’s basketball team suffered a tough home loss at the hands of the University of Charleston Golden Eagles 57-78.
In the first half of play the Pioneers and Golden Eagles would go back and forth. However, at the 6:37 mark of the first half the Pioneers would go on a drought as they went into halftime down, 19-39.
In the second half the drought would continue until the 16:44 mark after Brien Winston hit two free throws making it 21-47. However, the Pioneers would struggle the rest of the night as they could never find their shooting touch.
The Pioneers would fall to the Golden Eagles by 21 points, 57-78.
The Pioneers shot only 34 percent from the floor and 31percent from behind the three point line, while the Golden Eagles shot 55percent from the floor and 50 percent from behind the three point line.
Even in the loss, the Pioneers defense managed to cause 19 Golden Eagle turnovers and converted them into 18 points.
The Golden Eagles would have a huge advantage on the boards as they out rebounded the Pioneers 19-44.
Donte Morales was the only Pioneer to score in double figures finishing with 10 points . Kevin Gray finished the night with 8 points. Jordan McCloud finished the night with 4 rebounds and 4 points, while Reggie Williams dished out 2 assists and 5 points.
The Golden Eagles had four players scoring in double figures with Tino diTrapano scored a game high of 22 points.
The Pioneers return to action Monday February 10, when they travel to Fairmont State University. Game time is set for 7:30 p.m.
