Wheeling, W.Va. – The Glenville State Pioneer men’s basketball team went on the road a pulled out a close win at Wheeling Jesuit as they defeated the Cardinals, 66-65.
GSC would get down early to the Cardinals however the Pioneers would make a nice run and head into halftime up one, 35-34.
In the second half the Pioneers would find their selves down by 10 points, 58-48, with 10:06 left to play.
But GSC would make a comeback and tie it up at 62 all with 4:04 left. However both teams would trade basketsas it was knotted up at 65 all, but GSC’s Reggie Williams would hit one of two free throws with 1:02 left as the Pioneers would go on to win by one, 66-65.
The Pioneers won the rebounding battle 31 to 24. GSC shot the ball well as they shot 55 percent from the floor and 41 percent from behind the three-point line, while Wheeling Jesuit shot 43 percent from the floor and 33 percent from behind the three-point line.
Freshman Brett Morris scored a team high for the Pioneers as he scored 17 points, 6 rebounds, and 2 blocks. Kevin Gray scored 15 points while Reggie Williams scored 10 points and handed out 5 assists.
Lamar Mallory just missed a double double as he scored 9 points and grabbed 10 rebounds.
Wheeling Jesuit was led by Eric Siefert as he scored 20 points while Justin Fritts scored 18 points.
The Pioneers return to action Saturday, February 22nd when West Liberty travels to town, it is also Senior Day. Tip-off is set for 4:00 pm.
