Pioneers Drop Doubleheader to West Virginia State

BaseballInstitute, W.Va. – The Glenville State Pioneer baseball team fell in the first game of the 2014 season as they were defeated in game one of a doubleheader to West Virginia State University, 3-7.

In game one of the doubleheader, West Virginia State would get on the board first in the first inning as they took a 1-0 lead. GSC would tie it up at 1-1 in the top of the third inning, however West Virginia State would then retake the lead in the bottom of the third as they took a 3-1 lead.

After that the Pioneers would try and get back into the game but West Virginia State proved to be to much as GSC fell, 3-7.

Ethan Szabo went 2 for 2 and scored a run for GSC while Khalfani Mar’na went 1 for 3 with an RBI. Tyler Wiseman also had an RBI.

Brock McClung pitched 4 innings as he allowed 7 hits, 5 runs, and struck out 2 batters.

West Virginia State was led by Jack Hudson as he went 1 for 3 with 2 RBI’s.

In the second game, the Pioneers would get down 5-0, heading into the fifth inning. However GSC would try and mount a comeback as the Pioneers would score 3 runs in the top of the fifth inning but it wouldn’t be enough as GSC would fall in game two of the double header, 3-5.

Alex Mace went 1 for 4 with an RBI for GSC while Ethan Szabo went 1 for 2.

Jonathan Murphy pitched 3.2 innings allowing 3 hits, 5 runs, and walked 3 batters.

West Virginia State was led by Jack Hudson as he went 2 for 3 with 2 RBI’s and scored a run.

The Pioneers are 0-2 on the season and return to the diamond Saturday, March 1st when they will play Notre Dame College in their first home contest of 2014. Game time is set for 1:00 pm.
