In game one of the double header Concord would strike first as they took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first after Allie Reid hit a single as Jessica Seymour and Kristen Rose both crossed the plate. But GSC would come right in the bottom of the first and make it 2-1 as Carly Caldon scored on a wild pitch.
However Concord would add to their lead in the top of the second as they would score three runs to take a 5-1 lead over GSC.
GSC’s Kayleigh Huck would hit a three run homerun in the bottom of the third inning as the Lady Pioneers pulled within one, 5-4.
Concord would again add to their lead in the top of the sixth inning as they scored three runs to take a 8-4 lead over the Lady Pioneers. Then in the top of the seventh Concord’s Brantlea Wood hit a solo homerun and later in the inning Kristen Rose hit a three run homerun as Concord went up 12-4.
GSC would try and make a late come back but Concord would prove to be to much as the Lady Pioneers fell in game one 12-4.
GSC finished the game with 10 hits while Concord finished with 12 hits.
Kayleigh Huck led GSC as she went 3 for 4 with 3 RBI’s and a homerun. Brittany May pitched 4 innings allowing 7 hits and gave up 5 runs.
In the second game of the double header, both teams struggled to get their bats working as we headed into the fourth inning scoreless.
However the tie would be broken in the top of the fourth after GSC’s Sam Weaver walked in a run as Concord took a 1-0 lead.
Then GSC would tie it up at 1-1 in the bottom of the sixth inning as Morgan Scarpellini hit an RBI double as Carly Caldon scored.
Concord however would not be finished as they added five runs in the top of the seventh to take a 6-1 lead over GSC. The Lady Pioneers would have one last chance in the bottom of the seventh inning. GSC’s Johnni Tillman would hit a solo homerun but the Lady Pioneers would come up short as they fell to Concord in game two, 2-6.
Morgan Scarpellini went 2 for 3 with an RBI while Johnni Tillman went 1 for 3 with a homerun. Sam Weaver pitched all seven innings as she allowed 9 hits, gave up 6 runs, and struck out 7 batters.
The Lady Pioneers return to the diamond Sunday, April 13th when UVA-Wise travels to Glenville for a double header. Game time is set for 1:00pm
