GNEVNILLE, WV—The winners of the 7th annual Glenville State College Juried Student Art Show have been announced.
“We had a great amount of entries this year for our annual art show. Every year this show gets more and more competitive,” said GSC Assistant Professor of Art Liza Brenner.
The winning submissions for this year’s show were announced during the opening reception on March 27th. This year’s winners were: GSC senior studio art major Amanda Wallbrown from Rosedale (Braxton County), West Virginia who won the Provost’s Award; GSC sophomore general studies major Shaley Murray from Weston (Lewis County), West Virginia who won first place and the Juror’s Award; GSC sophomore graphics and digital media major Jazmin Gordon from Saint Albans (Kanawha County), West Virginia who won second place and the Linda Abraham Memorial Award; GSC sophomore general studies major Heather Chambers from Parsons (Tucker County), West Virginia who won third place; and GSC senior studio art major Ryan Singleton from Burnsville (Braxton County), West Virginia who took home an honorable mention.
“I am very excited to have won the Provost’s Award. I put a lot of effort into my piece. It is made entirely from newspaper and took over twenty-five hours to complete,” said Wallbrown.
Mary Ellen Chapman, Diana Frank, and GSC Professor Emerita Dr. Deanna Foxworthy were jurors for the event. They said, “The quality of the works submitted overall made the decision making process a challenge and our congratulations go to all entries.”
The show ran from March 17th until April 17th in the GSC Fine Arts Galley. For more information, contact GSC Associate Professor of Art Liza Brenner at (304) 462-6346.
