GSC Football Team Announces New Staff Members

Glenville State College Head Football coach David Hutchison would like to announce his new staff members for the 2014 football season

Glenville, W.Va. - Glenville State College Head Football coach David Hutchison would like to announce his new staff members for the 2014 football season.

“We are very excited to welcome these new coaches into the Glenville family. They bring a great mixture of excitement, experience, and enthusiasm. It is nice to have Jon, Terry, and Jermell already family with Glenville all having excellent careers here. Tim and Chris are two exceptional coaches with a lot of coaching experience,” stated GSC Head Football Coach David Hutchison. 

Tim McGuire comes to GSC as the new defensive backs coach for the Pioneers. A native of Omaha, Neb., he comes to GSC after serving as the Assistant Head Coach and Offensive Coordinator for Southeast Missouri State University. In 2005 McGuire was the defensive coordinator at St. Norbert College after having a 12-year stint at Indiana State.  He was the Sycamores defensive coordinator from 1993-97 and head coach from 1998-2004. ISU’s defensive units registered three shutouts and held opponents under 10 points on 10 occasions during McGuire’s tenure.  Coach McGuire also was the head coach at Morningside College in Iowa (1981-82) and worked as assistant at Navy, Northern Illinois, Kansas State and Nebraska-Omaha.   McGuire played offensive guard at Nebraska from 1971-74. He received a bachelor’s degree in Mathematics from Nebraska and master’s degree in Physical Education from Nebraska-Omaha. McGuire is a member of the American Football Coaches Association.

Chris Royal enters his first season on the Pioneer football staff as the new wide receivers coach. Chris is originally from Reston, Virginia. He graduated from Marshall University with a Bachelor Degree of Arts. Chris was a four year member of the Marshall University football team where he played defensive back for the Thundering Herd. Coach Royal has over six years of coaching experience; some other schools he has coached at are Marshall University, Saint Louis University, University of Maryland, and South Lakes High School. Chris also played football professional, he was invited to the NFL’s Washington Redskins Minicamp and later played in the Arena Football League for seven years.

Jon Rasnick enters his first year on the GSC Pioneer Football Staff as the offensive line coach.  Jon is from Orange, Virginia where he attended Orange County High School. During his high school career Rasnick was named Honorable Mention All-District his junior year and was named All-District Region One his senior year. After high school Rasnick attended Glenville State College from 2009 to 2013 where he was a four year starter for the Pioneer Football team. Jon had a great career while at GSC, his sophomore year he was named to the WVIAC Honorable Mention Team, junior year he was named to the WVIAC All-Conference First Team, and during his senior year he was named to the MEC All-Conference First Team and was elected to the Don Henson Football Gazette Super Region One Third Team. Jon graduated from Glenville State with a Degree in Health Education and Physical Education.

Jermell Corbitt comes to GSC as the new running backs coach.  Jermell is a native of Naples, Florida. He is a former GSC Quarterback and played from 2008-2010. Jermell spent last fall (2013) as the Head Men’s and Women’s Cross Country Coach at Glenville State, he also spent last spring (2014) as the Head Men’s and Women’s Track & Field Coach at GSC. He graduated from GSC in with a Sport Management Degree. 

Terry Reese enters his first season as a defensive backs coach. Reese is originally from Washington D.C., he is a former four year starter at strong safety for GSC from 2008 to 2013. Reese had an outstanding career for the Pioneers. He was named twice to the WVIAC All-Conference Teams and was also named twice to the MEC All-Conference Teams. Reese racked up 298 total tackles in his career and finished with four interceptions.

The Pioneers open up the 2014 season on the road Saturday, September 6th against Concord University at 1:00pm. Their first home game is Saturday, September 13th against West Liberty at 1:00pm.
