The Pioneers fell behind early and were unable to recover as they dropped their 3rd straight WVIAC game tonight, 88-74 to Fairmont State. The Falcons used an 11-1 run over three minutes to break a 12-12 tie to grab the lead for good.
FSU was paced by a game high 27 points from Steve Custis and 24 points from Thad McFadden. Ian Grady added a double double with 10 points and 10 rebounds.
The Pioneers received 15 points apiece from Jamal Holden and Anthony Kimble. Chase Groves added 14 and Tryvan Leech 12 as GSC falls to 8-5 Overall and 2-4 in the WVIAC.
After falling behind by as many as 12 in the 1st half the Pioneers would claw back and cut the deficit to eight, 40-32, on a Holden jumper at the end of the half.
After the break Groves would hit a 3 pointer and a jumper to cut the lead to 4, 48-44 with 15:03 remaining.
The Falcons would then go on a game clinching 18-4 run over the next 6 minutes and change to seal the victory for Fairmont State.
For the game FSU would connect on 45.8% of their shots including a scorching 13 of 27 (48.1%) from behind the arc.
GSC would connect on 41.1% of their field goals but just 4 of 13 from behind the arc.
