The Glenville State College Pioneer football team has been pretty busy this spring giving back to the Glenville community. On Wednesday, May 4 the football team, under the direction of Head Coach David Hutchison, spent the afternoon picking up litter around the city of Glenville.
Pioneer Football Team Gives Back
“Helping the community is something that I feel we need to do as much as possible. We ask the community to attend our games and cheer these kids on, so it’s just our way of showing everyone how much we appreciate their support,” said Head Coach David Hutchison.
After the team finished picking up litter, the Pioneer coaching staff and players hosted a free Little Pioneers youth camp at Morris Stadium. The camp was to focus on basic fundamentals ranging from stretching and footwork to position specific drills.
“We had nearly 20 kids attend, and it was a real hit with the team, they had a lot of fun and really enjoyed the kids,” said Hutchison.
Additionally, on Thursday, April 26 the Pioneer’s spring football game honored the Gilmer County Volunteer Fire Department by collecting donations for the department.
“We are going to try to give back to the community as much as possible just to show how much we appreciate the support that the community gives us,” stated Hutchison.
The GSC Pioneers will open the 2011 season on Thursday, September 1 when they host Carson-Newman at 7:00 p.m. at Morris Stadium.
