The Glenville State Lady Pioneer Volleyball team lost a hard fought match to the West Virginia State Lady Yellow Jackets on Thursday night at Jesse R. Lilly Gym 3-2.
The Lady Pioneers and Lady Yellow Jackets went back and forth the whole game. The Lady Pioneers came out strong as they defeated West Virginia State in match one by a score of 26-24, but things got shaky from there as State took match two by a score of 25-20, and they also took match three 25-18.
The Lady Pioneers knew that if they wanted to force a match five then they needed to win match four and that is just what they did as they took match four 25-17. In match five they went back and forth but the Lady Pioneers ended up on the losing end of the match by a score of 15-12, and West Virginia State ended up winning the game 3-2.
Overall the Lady Pioneers played a hard fought game; Jamie Schindel had 18 kills for the Lady Pioneers, while teammate Chelsea Cooke-Tripp added 15 kills of her own. Erica Hale led the Lady Pioneers in assists with 48 for the game, and Chelsea Stickelman led the team in digs with 13.
The Lady Pioneers now stand at 3-20 on the year and will take the court on Friday as they travel to Davis & Elkins game time is set for 7:00PM; they also will play on Saturday which is Senior Day against West Virginia Wesleyan game time is set for 5:00PM. Come out and wish these Senior’s the best of luck in their final home game as a Pioneer.
