On a beautiful Saturday afternoon in Gilmer County, the Glenville State Pioneers jumped out to an early lead and then with-stood a late comeback rally by the Seton Hill Griffins to claim a 38-28 WVIAC Conference victory.
With 14:35 left in the fourth quarter, Seton Hill pulled within 10 points, on a touchdown pass from DJ Lenehan to Daniel Butler from 12 yards out to make the score 38-28.
The Pioneers then ran out the clock after the ensuing kickoff.
The Pioneers were lead by QB Darold Hughes as he went 16 of 25 for 253 yards and 3 TD’s. His favorite targets were Antwan Stewart and Jordan Griffin. Stewart had 6 catches for 86 yards and a TD, while Griffin hauled in 5 catches for 118 yards and 2 TD’s.
On the ground, the Pioneers were led by Brain Harden, rushing for 89 yards on 16 carries and 1 TD. DeAndre Johnson also had 16 carries for 84 yards.
On the defensive side of the ball middle linebacker Donald Marshall had a good game, racking up 11 total tackles. Terry Reese also added 5.5 total tackles to compliment the defensive effort.
The Pioneers will battle WVIAC foe Fairmont State Falcons next Saturday at 1:00PM at Morris Stadium.
