VIDEO - T. Leech’s 21 Points

The Glenville State Pioneers picked up a huge WVIAC road victory, defeating the Concord University Mountain Lions tonight 75-74.  Junior sharpshooter Tryvan Leech led the Pioneers (3-3, 1-1) with 21 points while connecting on 5 of 10 3pt attempts.  Freshman Allen Boyd recorded a near triple double, adding 15 points, 11 rebounds and 7 assists.

The Mountain Lions (3-2, 0-2) were led by Dannie Parker’s 19 points and 10 rebounds in 26 foul plagued minutes and Cordale Boyd added 14 points.

Both teams struggled from the field in the 1st half, as the Pioneers took a 37-32 lead into the half.   Glenville State, now 19-5 when leading at the half under Coach Osborne, would quickly open with a 14-6 run to push the lead to 13 five minutes into the 2nd half.   GSC would maintain a strong lead, before Concord would use a 15-5 run to pull even with 6:13 to play.

A quick 6-0 run on a Mykail Vibbert three point play and a Deon Briscoe 3 pointer would have Glenville back up six.  The Lions would quickly answer as a Boyd jumper mixed with a jumper and a pair of free throws from Parker would have the game knotted up at 69 all with three minutes to play.

Then Marcus Catney would put the Pioneers up two on a jumper.  CU’s Lemond Lee would make one of two free throws to cut the lead back to one. Following a Concord timeout, Guard Chase Groves would connect on a jumper to push the lead back to three with 2:05 to play.

Back to Back jumpers by Cordale Boyd and Chance Smith saw the Lions up one with 15 seconds left to play.

After another Concord timeout, Catney would get free for a jump shot before getting fouled by Rafee Smith with 4.4 seconds left.  Marcus would drain both clutch free throws to put the Pioneers 75-74.

Concord would get one last chance as Anthony Lansdowne would miss on a long three point attempt as time would expire

The Pioneers have a day off before hitting the road to take on Slippery Rock University, in Slippery Rock, PA.  Tipoff is at 7:30 P.M.
