(Glenville, WV) – The Glenville State Pioneers fell to the WV State Yellow Jackets, 80-70, in WVIAC Men’s Basketball action tonight at Lilly Gymnasium. WV State (3-3, 1-0) shot 49% from the field and had five players score in double digits. James Helton paced the Yellow Jackets with 19 points and 11 rebounds, and Wade Pidock added 15 points.
Glenville State (1-2, 0-1) was led by Junior Tryvan Leech’s game high 20 points and Allen Boyd’s 18.
The Pioneers’ led 34-28 with four minutes remaining in the 1st half before WV State would score 10 unanswered, and go to the break with a 38-34 lead.
After falling down nine early in the 2nd half, GSC used a 14-5 run to tie it up at 53 with 10:53 remaining in the game. However, WVSU would counter that run and go on a 12-0 run over the next 2:30 to essentially put the game out of reach.
Glenville State was held to just 36% shooting and a woeful 23% from behind the arc.
The Pioneers’ return to action this weekend against WVU–Tech as they play host to the Gassaway Glenville PT Specialists Tournament. Friday’s tip off against the Golden Bears is at 8 p.m.
