The Glenville State Men’s Basketball team rebounded from last night’s disappointing loss to defeat OSU-Newark, 118-92, at the GST/Fairmont State Kickoff Classic. The Pioneers (1-1) were led by seven players in double figures, as Taron Hurst came off the bench to recorded a double double with 20 points and 12 rebounds. Mykail Vibbert also chipped in 20 points, and last night’s leading scorer Tryvan Leech would add 19.
GSC, up 48-42 at intermission, used a 70 point 2nd half to pull away from the pesky OSU-Newark squad. The Pioneers shot 59% from the field and 33% from behind the arc, while only committing 11 turnovers. Allen Boyd added 15pts, Jacob Miller scored 12 and Trent Tornincasa and Marcus Catney scored 10 points each.
OSU-Newark (0-2) got double doubles from Mark Brooks’, who had 21 pts and 12 rebounds and Casey Roberts’ 18 points and 10 rebounds. Romeo Broadus led all scorers with 23 pts and he added 7 rebounds.
